Thank You For Making The First Half of 2018 Great

Special Olympics Georgia continues to provide high-quality competitions for our athletes,

and it is only because of your support and friendship that this is possible.

Thank you for your passion, energy, and time towards helping the athletes achieve athletic and lifetime success!

The first half of 2018 has been very eventful and successful for Special Olympics Georgia athletes and everyone involved with Special Olympics Georgia.

A few highlights:

  • There are currently 206 accredited Special Olympics Georgia programs across the state.
  • 5,795 athletes, unified partners, and coaches participated in State Indoor Winter Games and State Summer Games.  3,521 amazing volunteers assisted with these Games.
  • Special Olympics Georgia held a 3 day Youth Forum in June at Emory University.  42 youth volunteers and SOGA athletes ages 13-18 attended alongside 10 SOGA team members and volunteers.  The Forum focused on leadership skills training, provided the youth opportunities to implement these skills in a group setting, and educated the youth on how to become involved with SOGA as an advocate in their school/community, coach, unified partner, and fundraiser.
  • Special Olympics Georgia sent a delegation of 42 athletes, partners, and coaches to the Special Olympics 2018 USA Games in Seattle June 30 – July 6.  Team Georgia consisted of a Traditional Basketball Team from Hall County that brought home a gold medal, a Unified Volleyball Team from Gwinnett County that brought home a 4th place ribbon, a Unified Soccer Team from Special K’s that brought home a bronze medal, and a Unified Golf Team from Douglas County that brought home a bronze medal.
  • Coca-Cola had three Special Olympics athletes working with them to support the 2018 USA Games, two of which are Special Olympics Georgia athletes.

Thank you for continuing to believe in our athletes and for making sure that every Special Olympics Georgia athlete has the opportunity to be an Olympian!

The Revolution is Inclusion Campaign

This is a very exciting time for our movement — one part celebration of all we have accomplished in the past 50 years and one part a global challenge to get everyone involved in expanding the frontiers of inclusion everywhere, as we embark on the next 50 years.

To that end, we are very excited to announce the launch of “The Revolution Is Inclusion” campaign. It’s an all-out effort, led by our Special Olympics athletes, to end discrimination against all people with intellectual disabilities and to create a fully inclusive world. Please take a few minutes out of your busy day to take the Inclusion Pledge, our challenge to the world is to join this important revolution!
