RunDunwoody, Oct. 18, Dunwoody

RunDunwoody is a 5K Run, 1-Mile Fun Run, Tot Trot, and family festival rolled into a morning of activities on Sunday, October 18th at Perimeter Mall. The 5K route is a 2016 Peachtree Road Race qualifier.  As a beneficiary of RunDunwoody and long-time partner of the Rotary Club of Dunwoody (the run’s founding and presenting sponsor), Special Olympics Georgia has created a team for the Team Challenge in the not-for-profit category. Registration fees start at $20 and increase to $35 as it gets closer to the date of the race.  For more information on the race or to register as part of Team Special Olympics Georgia, go to www.rundunwoody.net or contact the Race Director at info@rundunwoody.net.

Red Robin “Tip-A-Cop” – October 24

“Tip-A-Cop” is an official Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) Campaign fundraising event. Law enforcement officers and department personnel volunteer their time as “Celebrity Waiters” to collect tips at selected Red Robin Restaurants to support Special Olympics Georgia. This will take place on Saturday, October 24 at the following Red Robin locations:

Newnan
Lawrenceville
Columbus
Evans
Cumming

The shifts for the event will be between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Come out, enjoy a delicious Red Robin Burger and “Tip-A-Cop.”

Bob Busse Memorial Golf Classic, November 16, Atlanta

Special Olympics Georgia once again proudly hosts the Bob Busse Memorial Golf Classic at a prestigious golf club in Sandy Springs on November 16. The event was originally scheduled for November 2, but inclement weather forced the postponement to November 16. With that in mind, you can still come out for a great day and support the athletes of Special Olympics Georgia!

2017 State Indoor Winter Games, January 20-22, 2017

Special Olympics Georgia will host the 2017 State Indoor Winter Games on January 20-22, 2017.

Come join the 2800 athletes, coaches, and unified partners in Cobb County as they compete in basketball, bowling, floor hockey, artistic gymnastics, and powerlifting!

The Opening Ceremony will be held on Friday, January 20th at the Cobb Civic Center at 7:30pm and is open to the public.

St. Peter Chanel 5K – November 21 – Roswell

The 2nd-annual St. Peter Chanel 5K Run/Walk is set for the Saturday before Thanksgiving – November 21. Join us at St. Peter Chanel Catholic Church in Roswell to raise money for Special Olympics Georgia. The 3.1-mile course features flat roads and a scenic, rolling trail. Publix-LETR Special Olympics Torch Icon Sale – January 2-23

At the beginning of each year, from January 2 – January 23, millions of paper torch icons are distributed to Publix Supermarkets and sold for a $1, $3 or $5 donation at the register, with the proceeds benefiting Special Olympics Georgia (SOGA). In 2015, SOGA received approximately $614,000 from this three-week promotion! Designed to raise awareness of SOGA, this promotion is in collaboration with Publix sponsorship of the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR).

Publix’s support of this program is particularly unique because many of SOGA’s athletes are employed at various Publix locations throughout the state. The LETR involves more than 1,000 law enforcement officers from over 100 agencies who take part in various runs spanning two weeks in May in which they pass the Special Olympics Georgia “Flame of Hope” across the State. All of the relays converge at Emory University (Atlanta) during the State Summer Games Opening Ceremony. The LETR is the largest annual fundraising event benefiting Special Olympics Georgia with Publix being the longest and largest single donor to the program.
