2019 Over the Edge
Saturday, May 11th
Go Over the Edge for
Special Olympics Georgia!

What is Over the Edge?
Ever wondered if you had what it takes to be fearless and face new challenges head-on? Well, here’s your chance! Saturday, May 11th, join more than 80 “Edgers” who are brave enough to raise $1,000 to rappel over the edge of a 22-story building for Special Olympics Georgia.
On May 11th, 2019, you can experience the challenge, the bravery and the exhilaration of participating in an event that takes you out of your comfort zone and ultimately changes your life forever – the same thing our Special Olympics athletes experience every day.
With this event, Special Olympics Georgia is looking for a few good men and women to make their mark in history while supporting the most credible charity in America. This is your opportunity to experience first-hand what it means to face a challenge that initially seems quite daunting but at the same time celebrates the challenges and similarities we all share in life. This is your chance to show our athletes your courage and your support of what they experience daily.

The Facts:
Who: 86 participants (men, women, children; 100 to 300 lbs)
What: Raise a minimum of $1000 for the chance to rappel down a 22 story building
When: Saturday May 11, 2019
Where: Overlook III 2859 Paces Ferry Road, SE Atlanta, GA 30339

A Special Thank You

Special Olympics Georgia continues to provide high-quality competitions for our athletes, and it is only because of your support and friendship that this is possible.

Thank you for your passion, energy, and time towards helping the athletes achieve athletic and lifetime success!

The first half of 2017 has been very eventful and successful for Special Olympics Georgia athletes and everyone involved with Special Olympics Georgia.

A few highlights:

  • Thee are currently 210 accredited Special Olympics Georgia programs across the state.
  • 5,638 athletes, Unified Partners, and coaches participated in State Indoor Winter games and State Summer Games. 3,282 amazing volunteers assisted with these Games. Click here to view photos from the weekend, or to view photos from the weekend that FOX  posted, click on the below photo.

  • Special Olympics Georgia held a 3 day Youth Forum in June at Emory University. 33 youth volunteers and SOGA athletes ages 13-18 attended alongside 10 SOGA team members and volunteers. The Forum focused on leadership skills training, provided the youth opportunities to implement these skills in a group setting, and educated the youth on how to become involved with SOGA as an advocate in their school/community, coach, Unified Partner, and fundraiser.

We are also extremely excited to announce that to better serve YOU – our athletes, families, volunteers and friends – we are building a one-of-a-kind training facility and administrative space called Training for Life: Sports Lab & Center. This state-of-the-art new SOGA home will include a training space for athletes, gathering space for communities, an administrative support for our SOGA team and volunteers to better serve 27,115 athletes! The doors to the new SOGA headquarters will open in November.

Thank you for continuing to believe in our athletes and for making sure that every Special Olympics Georgia athlete has the opportunity to be an Olympian!

March of 2017 is a big month for SOGA! Not only can you join SOGA athletes Deon and Evan as they go for the gold at the World Winter Games in Austria, but now you can join one of our very own LETR members as they take the plunge!

Major John Clifton, Chair of the Executive Council of LETR for Special Olympics Georgia has been selected as one of the 88 LETR officers worldwide in participating in the Final Leg of the Torch Run at World Games and plunging into the freezing waters of the Flughafen Sea in Niederoblarn, Austria.

John has set his fundraising goal for $25,000 to help not only athletes, not only from Georgia like Deon and Evan, but worldwide. Half of all money he is raising will come back home to Georgia to benefit our 27,110 athletes.
